Remember that one post I put out when Matt and I were in Florida and the caption was like, "how do I become a travel blogger for a living?" -- or something like that? So I put that out into the universe and BOOM, I got an email to do some travel blogging for a hotel and spa! *thanks, universe*
So, where was this tropical, romantic little getaway? We took a quick trip a couple hours up the road to *drum roll*..... Burlington, Iowa!
I know what you're thinking... Burlington....Iowa? I thought the same thing, considering I'd only ever been there once and it was years ago. Although I didn't know what to expect when we visited the Catfish Bend Inn and Spa, we were both pleasantly surprised, to say the least!
We had a beautiful room with an uncharacteristically comfortable king size bed, a patio right next to a private pool and hot tub, a large shower, modern decor and a beautiful bathroom. The room and accommodations weren't your typical hotel that you'd find in Iowa. The spa was really beautiful with high-end services and really great products that are kind of hard to come by without shopping online.
We ate at Boogaloo's, it's a sports bar. It was pretty much what you would expect from a good sports bar -- lots of TVs, great food, laid back atmosphere. They did, however, serve Chicken Lips... if you've never had them, you need to. Matt had those and I had a Chicken Lip wrap. Side note, they actually had some very unexpected but delicious tropical mixed drinks. Weird right? But so good. Huge fan of the food we had.
Then, being the gamblers we aren't, we stopped at the casino that was attached to our hotel. I don't know how to play cards or any casino table games and I HATE losing money to a casino... so I wasn't super jazzed about it. BUT for the first time ever, Matt and I walked away with $163 we won on a slot machine! For someone who doesn't gamble and traditionally hates casinos, I was super excited and we actually had a really good time.
Although we didn't get over the other area, there was an area connected to us called the Pzazz! Resort Hotel. They offer an outdoor waterpark, a bowling alley, go-karts, games and a ton more. I have nieces and a nephew that would LOVE to stay somewhere like that.
Again, this was such a fun and relaxed little getaway for Matt and I. Who knew Burlington, Iowa had a little resort that could offer so much? I was completely surprised, but I would recommend it for a family weekend, staycation with your S/O, or a quick little weekend with friends!
